Knott’s Scary Farm 2026: Pick Your Fear Before You Buy Your Ticket

A fog-filled night in Buena Park can be a brilliant Halloween outing—if your group wants the same kind of scare. Build a first visit around curiosity, a realistic budget and permission to take a break.

The best question to ask before buying a Halloween ticket is surprisingly ordinary: what does everyone actually want from the night? One friend wants the first jump scare. Another wants elaborate sets. Someone else wants a good photograph and dinner. Put them all in the same fog-filled street without talking first, and the evening can become a negotiation.

Knott’s Scary Farm in Buena Park is our pick for the group that wants fear to be the main event. We like the way a haunted outing can invite you to pay attention to things you normally overlook: a doorway, a sound behind you, the shape of a stranger in low light. That is the attraction we would build a first visit around, rather than a promise to complete every maze.

What you are choosing this October

The official 2026 event runs on select nights September 17–October 31 at 8039 Beach Boulevard. It combines haunted mazes, scare zones, rides and shows. Two new mazes are Inked, with a sinister cartoon-studio premise, and Unearthed, built around an excavation gone wrong. Those contrasting settings give a first-timer two different kinds of imagined world to consider.

Choose one premise that genuinely interests you. A fascination with animation or abandoned places is a better starting point than following the longest line simply because it looks important. Looking at the setting, props and transitions also gives the nervous person something to notice besides waiting for the next fright. You can enjoy how a scene is constructed without turning the whole visit into a scorecard.

Knott’s says the event is not recommended for children under 13, and every guest needs paid admission. We would take that recommendation seriously. A friend who dislikes being startled in ordinary life may also prefer a different outing; buying a ticket does not magically make surprise comfortable.

Make a small agreement before the first queue

Our suggested group plan is simple: two priority mazes, one show or rest stop, and a clear agreement that anybody can sit out an attraction. Decide where to meet again. Avoid making the least comfortable person explain their decision in front of the whole group each time. The night stays more playful when leaving a queue is treated as a practical choice.

Use the official guide or app to check the layout and showtimes on your chosen night. Do not turn our two-maze starting point into a timing guarantee: queues and schedules vary. If one priority has an impractical wait, swap its order with your break rather than spending the whole evening refreshing a screen. Save a little time for the atmosphere between attractions, which is part of why you chose a haunted park.

The ticket is only one part of the budget

On October 9, the official ticket page listed online admission from $75 before applicable taxes. Fright & Fast Lane was listed from $159 and explicitly excludes event admission. These are starting prices, not a quote for your particular night. Parking, food and other extras need their own budget.

For two people, the advertised admission minimum alone is $150; adding two advertised-minimum queue upgrades would add $318 before taxes and other costs. That arithmetic is worth doing before a checkout page makes the extras feel like small decisions. We would first choose a date everyone can commit to, then decide whether reducing queue time is worth more to your group than a longer meal or another outing later in the month.

Check date-specific availability and the displayed change or refund terms before paying. We have not verified a flexible cancellation option. Do not assume a daytime ticket or ordinary pass covers this separately ticketed evening.

Pack for the rules, then plan for the drive home

The current Scary Farm policy permits clear bags smaller than 12 × 12 × 6 inches, or non-clear wristlets/clutches no larger than 5 × 8 × 2 inches. Haunted mazes prohibit photography and recording. Guests 15 and younger require a chaperone at least 21; read the full current rules and identification requirements before bringing teens.

That makes this a poor night for a large camera bag. A pocket-sized plan is easier: charged phone, essentials that fit the policy, comfortable shoes, and a layer you can carry. Put the phone away inside mazes. A memory of how a room made you feel can be a better souvenir than footage you were not allowed to take.

For an LA departure, use a live route estimate for both arrival and return; a promised drive time would be misleading across so many starting neighborhoods. Allow a separate buffer for parking, security and walking to the entrance. Eat before arrival if your group becomes impatient when hungry, and choose your return driver before a late night begins. Check the official directions and the calendar for your exact date and operating hours.

Is this your Halloween?

Hobby-ist’s judgment: choose Scary Farm when the shared excitement is being scared together. Choose a gentler event when your group mainly wants seasonal atmosphere. A successful first visit ends with a scene you want to talk about—not an exhausted argument over the attractions you missed.
